Rock Black Friday From Your Laptop

Rock Black Friday From Your Laptop

Take advantage of Black Friday without waiting in line or even leaving your house! Yes, all the goodness of Black Friday from your laptop. So here are my best pro-tips from years in the trenches of Black Friday sales, deals and steals. Let’s talk about how to stack those deals to save you the most money.

eBates

eBates, Emily Baker, Black Friday Deals, Black Friday Shopping

Rock Black Friday with eBates

First of all, eBates. If you don’t have eBates, go there right now and sign up, seriously…NOW.  eBates gives you cash back for the things you buy online. to date, I have earned $937.18. They pay out quarterly and you can choose to get paid to your PayPal account or select a gift card. Sometimes the gift cards add 5-15% of the amount you are purchasing! I check websites before I buy anything, seriously. If you sign up here you get $10 instantly, no shopping needed!

Bulletproof.com

Bulletproof always has great Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. I will be stocking up on Brain Octane, Coffee Beans, Fat Water and Cookie Bars. Plus there is 5% back on eBates, and if you sign up for a recurring shipment ‘subscription’ before checkout (free to do and you can cancel after your order), you get an extra 5% off. So that is 10% off plus the sales!

Target.Com

Target has 1% cash back but also has stacked discounts with a Red card, and the Red card can be a debit, so you don’t have to use it as a credit card. Also, they have some fantastic deals happening from now until Cyber Monday. I am looking for a Nintendo 2DS, Amiibo for the Nintendo Switch and DS’s as well as Mario Plush and Mario Odessy. Plus, you don’t have to go to Target, you can shop online for in-store pickup or get free shipping with a Red card! Lot’s of great ways to stack discounts to save on Black Friday.

Amazon.Com

So Amazon has up to 8% back with eBates and has lightning deals plus the benefits of prime. Pro – Tip! If you aren’t a prime member, you can join for 30days free below. That’s right. Enjoy all the benefits of Prime for 30 days free. If you don’t have an Amazon Echo yet, now is the time to check it out.

BestBuy.Com

This is the place for all things electronic. If you are thinking of a new camera now is the time. Additionally, their deals on TV’s are legendary, but you generally have to be in store for those. The deals over at BestBuy start today, and yes there are eBates. if you have kiddos who like Nintendo, then check out the Amiibo deals at Best Buy.

BlackFriday.com

If you are looking for a few specific things and not just for great deals, this website has all the information you will need. Targeting a few items that you know you will be purchasing anyway saves you money. Sometimes it’s hard to resist a good deal on an item you wouldn’t have otherwise purchased but you are still spending more money than you would have if you hadn’t purchased it. So the true deals are on the items you know you would buy at full price anyway!

The Apple Store

Don’t forget that Apple does have Black Friday deals. They aren’t always as good as the deals that Target or Best Buy will have on older Apple products, but they are the only game for deals on new technology. Target will often have gift card deals when you purchase an iPad, for example. The Apple store will normally knock around $200 off of laptops and have a few other key deals on Black Friday. So if you are thinking Apple, make sure to check out the deals on their website Friday.

3 Time-Saving Beauty Hacks Every Busy Woman Needs To Know

3 Time-Saving Beauty Hacks Every Busy Woman Needs To Know

If you are like me, mornings can be a challenge.  Let’s be real, mornings are a challenge. Don’t worry, this isn’t one of those post about getting up earlier (though that can help), or how to eat breakfast in 4.5 seconds. Before I left my law job to become a full-time entrepreneur I spent most days with wet pulled back hair, barely any makeup and boring nails. I know…totally not me!  It is hard to feel cute when you constantly run out of the house without getting ready. I thought working for myself would allow me the time to pull myself together. Wrong.  I trade wet hair for a baseball cap and sometimes (maybe more than sometimes..) clothes that I wore yesterday.

There was a tipping point where I decided I wanted to look like I had my S*&t together at least some of the time. But, I don’t want to spend all the time in the world doing it. It became my mission to feel cute and put together, in a minimum, mom-friendly, amount of time. So I started looking for ways to simplify my beauty routine, wrangle my hair quickly and feel like I looked alive.

Now, I don’t know when it happened, but I totally missed the girl skill of doing my own hair. I literally never learned how to properly blow it out or style it and I am old, so YouTube wasn’t there to teach me all things teen beauty. But sitting here at almost 40 I have found the answer.  The Revlon one step hairdryer volumizer magic unicorn hair styling tool (ok, I added the last bit but it’s true). This recommendation came by way of a facebook group. I saw women with all kinds of hair having amazing results and tracked down this bad boy myself. I have used it for over a month, I have traveled with it, I have raved about it to everyone I know.  It is really that good.

One of the things I love most is having cute nails. However, I loathe the time in the chair and the upcharge for art on each nail. At just $8.99 each set the Incoco Nail Polish strips are my godsend. I actually reached out to Incoco and asked for a coupon code to share with you and they gave you 15% off!!!! So use code EmilyDBaker15 and you are set. These strips are basically nailed stickers but made out of nail polish. They come in amazing designs (and plain color if you are into that sort of thing).  They come off with nail polish remover and last about 2 weeks. They go on easily and are instantly dry. (see the video below! Even I can do it.) They make doing my nails a breeze and I love them so much.If you have never tried them use the coupon and check it out, you will never go back!

Finally, I live for the Arbonne Ultra. This is an ultrasonic skin care device and is the first of its kind. It allows your skin care products to penetrate the deeper levels of your skin so that when your skin turns over you have amazing glowing healthy skin coming up. It has made a difference in my skin and wrinkles and I rave about it in the video below. If you know an Arbonne consultant please show them some love. If you don’t, or you have questions, leave a comment or e-mail me and I will get you taken care of.

If you have morning hacks that make your days easier please let me know what they are because I love a good time saver!!! Don’t forget to join my e-mail community so we can continue the conversation!

Cheers-

Emily

You need Bulletproof Coffee…NOW.

You need Bulletproof Coffee…NOW.

You need Bulletproof Coffee in your life. Ok, maybe not everyone…only people who would like to lose weight, or have increased energy, or increased focus throughout the day, or decreased food cravings, or control of food cravings, or who want delicious healthy coffee. If that sounds like you….well then let’s crack on. Then Bulletproof Coffee is for you. This is my Bulletproof Coffee routine, everything I use is linked below. As you guys know I am a Bulletproof coach {in training} because I know this is a better way to start your day.

Bulletproof Coffee is for you and this is how I easily include Bulletproof Coffee in my life, everything I use is linked below. As you guys know I am a Certified Bulletproof Coach, one of the first 80 in the world!  I discovered the Bulletproof Diet and Bio-hacking through Bulletproof Coffee, and it has significantly improved my life.

So what’s so special about Bulletproof Coffee anyway? I’ll give you the short version of what is in this coffee and why it works. You use Upgraded coffee beans, Brain Octane Oil and Grassfed unsalted butter. This combination of nutrients gives you a sustained energy with amazing brain clarity. Additionally, the Brain Octane Oil helps put your body into Ketosis. When your body is in even mild ketosis, it burns fat for energy. When you burn fat instead of glucose your body will burn it’s own stores of fat as well…..isn’t that amazing. Your morning cup of coffee can help your body burn fat all day long!  If you want to find out about the science behind the coffee, Dave Aspery explains it really well. Who is Dave Aspery, he is the biohacker who discovered that bulletproof coffee was the key to a bulletproof lifestyle helping him to lose weight and regain health.

Prior to discovering Bulletproof, I was NOT a coffee drinker. I was a devoted Starbucks lover, But I never drank coffee, always an iced chai or iced tea. Coffee always hurt my stomach, like badly. I now know that it was the beans that were causing me to steer clear of coffee. So now I use the Upgraded Coffee because regular coffee can have mold mycotoxins. This mold is what can give you the shakes or jitters that leave you thinking you want another cup of coffee, that isn’t the caffeine, it’s the mold. The United States doesn’t regulate the amount of mold in coffee here, so coffee from Europe and Japan that is rejected for being too toxic is shipped right here. This is a rant for another post. But I have tried the Upgraded Coffee Beans, and I have tried other brands of coffee, I have had inconsistent results with other coffee’s, even high-end brands. Sometimes a batch is fine, sometimes it makes me jittery as can be.

Brain Octane Oil is a short chain fat derived from coconut oil. Your body only needs three steps to convert Brain Octane Oil to energy, so your body is fueled quickly and efficiently. (Sugar for example, takes 25 steps to be converted to energy). The Brain Octane oil is the key to giving your brain sustained energy that is ready to go, because it is processed so easily.

The Grassfed butter is a superfood. It’s packed full of nutrients that’s right, butter has nutrients, omega-3 fatty acids, CLA, beta-carotene, vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin D, vitamin E, and antioxidants. The fat helps sustain the energy throughout the day. Your body performs well on a high-fat diet and starting the day with this powerful combination can help kickstart that change.

My Morning Coffee routine is specific to me because I am still losing weight and supporting my adrenals. So I add more butter and I also add grass-fed collagen protein or peptides from Bulletproof or Vital-Proteins. Most mornings I also have one or two sausages because the added protein has helped me lose weight. If you are looking for sustained energy or mild weight loss then you can half this recipe and choose to leave out the collagen.  If you try this and find you are getting hungry earlier than you like try adding a little more butter or have some protein to eat with your coffee.

My Bulletproof Recipe

2 Cups (16 oz) Upgraded Coffee

4-6 Tbl. Butter

2-3 Tbl. Brain Octane Oil

2 scoops Collagen Protein

I have a coffee station set up in my house which allows me to make breakfast in under 5 minutes, everyone has time for this! Even when you are trying to get a whole family feed and out the door. Just set yourself up for success.

My favorite thing about my Bulletproof coffee is that it is frothy and delicious.

Exciting News!!

I am so excited to announce to all of you that  as of September 6, 2016 I am officially one of the first Certified Bulletproof Coaches! It has been an amazing and transformational 11 month journey to earn this certification. I know that in announcing this it begs the question ‘what is Bulletproof Coaching’? I will share how Bulletproof Describes it, because hey, they invented it.

“Imagine this… You feel great most of the time. You are deeply fulfilled, living a life you love. Your mind is clear,  sharp, focused. Your inner state energized and confident. You know how to shift between states of expansive power and presence, inner stillness and calm. When challenges come your way – you meet them with skillfulness and resilience. Your personal relationships are fulfilling and meaningful. You are delighting in taking your performance in every area of life to the next level. You are achieving your goals & living the best version of yourself.”  Bulletproof Coaching is Whole Person Human Potential Development, basically it will help you reach your Better Life through improved; energy, resilience, mental clarity and emotional intelligence.

So why does a super Type A lawyer with failing health decide to spend 11 months in an intensive training course to become a Certified Bulletproof Coach? I started this journey 11 months ago, you can take a look at the beginning of that journey here. I joined the inaugural Bulletproof Coach Training class to get to the heart of my own health struggles. After years of struggling to survive I was ready to thrive. I found the Bulletproof diet and  that was the beginning of the road, I was getting better and was also getting angry.

I was furious that after years of doctors no one had searched for the cause of my declining health, everyone wanted to treat the symptoms. I didn’t feel like anyone wanted to treat me as a whole.

Once I started the Bulletproof journey I knew there was so much more that could be done for me, and so much more that could be explored. I am still uncovering new things that need to be addressed and worked on, but I know to ask. Through Bulletproof coaching I have learned to trust my gut about my health and my body. I know that I can live everyday energetic, present and bold.

It’s funny when you are exhausted all the time you don’t pause to wonder if you could feel better because you feel fine. Fine isn’t awesome, Fine isn’t kicking ass everyday, Fine isn’t living…it’s surviving. Surviving isn’t what we are meant for, we are meant for greatness. No matter how busy you are, how bad you feel now, you can thrive. If you are interested in exploring your Better Life you can keep up with my journey on social media, and you can set up a chat with me to see if coaching is right for you.

A Tale of Two {imperfect} Braids

I am thrilled, honored and humbled to bring this guest blog post to you written by author and awesome mommy Karen Evancic. I have known Karen for what seems like is forever because she is one of my dear friends cousins, and through that connection we became friends. Please check out the info after this post because she is an amazing woman. I have tremendous respect and admiration for Karen, I was thrilled when agreed to allow this to be used as a guest blog post.  What she wrote resonated so deeply with me because we all struggle with the beast of perfection. So this is a perfect story about imperfection.

A Tale of Two (imperfect) Braids

As a little girl Corinna never let me do her hair. No braids, no barrettes, not even a ponytail. To say that I’m not great at braiding hair is an understatement. Well, times change and this morning she asked if I could part her hair down the middle and do a French braid down each side. Ugh. I looked at the clock and saw that she had less than ten minutes before she needed to leave for the bus stop. My first inclination was to say no, and that she should have asked me ten minutes ago because I suck at it, but how often does she ask me for help anymore?

So I said sure, knowing I’d likely have to drive her to school. I started braiding, and as I suspected, it took me awhile. And that was just the first side. The other side was harder for some reason and I struggled to keep the pieces in place. Halfway through I told her, “Sorry kiddo, this ain’t gonna be perfect.” Her response? “I didn’t ask you for perfect mom.”

Wait, what?!?!

I don’t know why that hit home so hard but it did. So often we moms and dads strive to be the perfect parent, checking all of the imaginary boxes that we think we should. We compare our kids and ourselves to others as if they are the measurement upon which we should gauge our success as parents. Are they getting enough sleep, are the exercising enough, are we guiding them well spiritually, do they know as many sight words as the three year old next door, are we teaching them the right morals, are they as smart as everybody else’s kids, do we take them out to do things enough, are they eating enough vegetables and are those veggies organic and was the beef we made the hamburgers with grass fed… You get the picture. We kill ourselves doing it too, leaving even less of ourselves to offer them. We’re so incredibly busy making sure we always say and do the ‘right’ thing. Because that’s what it’s all about right? Being the ‘perfect’ parent?

No. No it isn’t. It’s recognizing when your daughter needs a few moments of your time, even though you already had those moments planned for something else. It’s knowing that she appreciates you braiding her hair at all and that unplanned ride to school from mom? Bonus time for her. It’s understanding that she doesn’t need perfect. She just needs you to say yes when she thinks you won’t. Correction. She just needs you. Period.

I’ve been missing my kids lately, not because they’re away somewhere but because we’ve been so stupid busy. I’ve felt like less than a perfect parent and they’ve eaten chicken nuggets and tater tots on more nights than I care to admit. But you know what? They know we love them. They know we’re here. They KNOW we’re not perfect (if you think your kids think that you are you’re kidding yourself sweet friend…), but they also know that you’re the perfect parent for them because that heartfelt grin that they get when they check out the uneven and imperfect braids in the mirror and say they love it should tell you so… Should tell me so.

Perfection? They didn’t ask you for perfect.

Karen Head Shot I want to share a little with you about how amazing Karen is. Karen was born in July 1976 at Misawa Air Base in Japan and grew up traveling the world as a military child. When she was fourteen years old the Air Force stationed her father at Davis Monthan Air Force base in Tucson, Arizona and her family settled in and called it home. She attended Arizona State University for her undergraduate years and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1999. She was commissioned into the Air Force the day after her University commencement ceremony. Karen went on to spend five years on active duty and two years in the AF Reserves, all as an obstetrical nurse. She also completed a Master of Arts degree in Criminal Justice with an interest in forensic nursing and spent a short time as a sexual assault nurse examiner. She married shortly after college and has been married to her wonderful husband for sixteen years. They share three beautiful children together and have continued Karen’s transient roots while following her husband’s military career across the country. They have lived in Texas, Germany, Florida, Washington, Alabama, and Virginia.

She started writing a few years ago as a hobby. Her first and only novel was born of a foggy headed and sleepless state. She’d always had an interest in her grandmother, mother, and aunt’s story of how they came to be a family. Inspired by their perseverance, she had toiled with the idea of writing a fictional account of their story. Her father was in the hands of hospice at the time, after slowly losing a long battle with spinal cancer, and Karen was struggling with sleep. One night at three in the morning, after another night of insomnia, a simple line came through crisp and clear. “I wonder if her feet felt funny in her shoes.” She immediately got up and wrote it down and then started feverishly writing her story. The coming years brought many challenges but she didn’t stop until the novel was complete, a year and a half later. Karen’s first novel When a Red Bird Flies is brilliant and award winning. She wrote this through her family struggles, health struggles and her husband being deployed. She is simply a wonderful writer and an inspiring mom and human. You can find more about Karen and keep up with her latest work on her website.
